Women’s Month Reflections: The imposter phenomenon and the courage to own your contribution

Have you ever entered a room wondering whether you truly belonged there, despite having the qualifications, experience and capability to contribute?
Many accomplished women experience the imposter phenomenon. They question whether they are good enough, minimise their achievements or fear that they will somehow be exposed as less capable than others believe them to be.
This is not always a reflection of a woman’s competence. Sometimes it is reinforced by workplace cultures in which women have had to work harder to be heard, recognised or trusted.
The answer is not simply to tell women to be more confident. We must also examine the systems, messages and experiences that cause capable women to question their place.
Leadership development and coaching can provide valuable reflective spaces in which women recognise their strengths, examine limiting beliefs and develop the courage to lead from a more grounded sense of identity.
Authentic leadership does not require us to know everything. It asks us to understand the value we bring, remain open to learning and contribute with courage.
You do not need to become someone else to deserve your place at the table.
You belong because of the insight, experience and perspective you bring.
Where might self-doubt be preventing you from using your voice fully?
