Women’s Month Reflections: Leading through increasing complexity
Women are leading in a world characterised by uncertainty, rapid change and increasing complexity.
In complex environments, past solutions may no longer be enough. Leaders are required to make decisions with incomplete information, respond to competing demands and guide people through challenges that do not have simple answers.
This requires more than technical knowledge. It requires adaptive leadership.
Adaptive leaders remain curious. They listen to different perspectives, challenge assumptions, create space for experimentation and help people navigate the discomfort that accompanies change. They also understand that leadership is not about having all the answers. It is about asking better questions and mobilising others to become part of the solution.
Many women already demonstrate these capabilities through collaboration, relationship building, empathy and their ability to hold multiple perspectives. These strengths are increasingly important in today’s organisations.
However, leading through complexity can also be mentally and emotionally demanding. Women need reflective spaces where they can pause, think, learn and renew their sense of purpose.
Leadership development and coaching can help women move from constantly reacting to leading with greater awareness and intention.
Reflection: Are you trying to solve a complex challenge alone, or are you creating space for others to help shape the way forward?
